Rolling Stone's Top 20

The purpose of this project was to compile the main themes and issues discussed in the top 20 greatest songs of all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine. This was accomplished mostly through using metrolyrics.com to obtain and analyse the lyrics and through songfacts.com to help gain a perspective in which to further determine the motives behind the song. After analysis of the backgrounds of the artists and of the lyrics, we summarized our findings in paragraphs and separated them based on their artists. This further helped understand the reason for the song's popularity. After we looked to the major themes and time periods we were able to not only find patterns to successful songs (in the opinions of Rolling Stone Magazine), but we were also able to determine some bias in the selection process. This should further our conception of historical bias's effect on how we percieve music and allow us to see more clearly the reasons behind a song's success.
